Our first-ever virtual fundraiser was a huge hit!

We didn’t let a little thing like a global pandemic stop us from serving our community over the past year, and we certainly didn’t let it get in the way of our annual fundraiser. Just like we found new ways to safely care for our patients over the past year, we found a safe, fun, and different way to celebrate our traditional Crab & Wine Days.

This year, we went online with our first Crab Cake Cook-Along & Wine Tasting Sip-Along, streamed live and hosted by our friends at Little River Inn. Award-winning chefs prepared delectable crab cakes as our audience watched or cooked along with the culinary artistes. Some even shared their crab cake “unselfies” with us!

The show was emceed by popular Bay Area TV personality Roberta Gonzales and our beloved former Sheriff Tom Allman was back as our Auctioneer Extraordinaire. If you missed it, you can still enjoy all the fun here:

Not only did everyone have a great time, we have raised a gross of $75,000 so far! More than $35,000 has been donated to the Fund-the-Future pledge drive to help us pay for the many and ongoing costs of providing COVID-19 vaccines and testing to our community members. We are so grateful to everyone who donated so generously and everyone who helped us to pull off this fantastic, innovative event!

On Friday, March 19, MCC gave more than 700 vaccines in just a few hours – our biggest one-day event yet! So far, MCC has administered 4,821 vaccines to nearly 3,000 people. We are excited and inspired to give a #shotofhope to our community.

After a year of sheltering in place, we are all ready for a little getaway! We are offering two amazing escapes, right here in beautiful Mendocino County. One is a delightful stay at the storied, historic Little River Inn, complete with a delicious dinner from their on site restaurant and an ocean view golf game at the Inn’s Audubon-certified course. Also up for bid is a wine country fantasy come true at Handley Cellars, including a stay in the vineyard’s ranch house, a private winery tour, and a catered picnic from the culinary artists at The Bewildered Pig.

As for the wine, we have some truly remarkable local bottles up for bid. There’s something to please every palate and suit every occasion, from sparklers to party-size magnums. Cheers!

Our Fund-the-Future this year is to help us with the costs of COVID-19 vaccination and testing. Throughout the pandemic, MCC has been there for our community, providing testing and vaccines at no cost to residents. But the cost to MCC in staff time to prepare for, staff, and document these events is significant and ongoing. We are grateful for the support of our donors, sponsors, and community, and we are looking forward to sharing this very special event with you.

The crab’s in the mail!

On Monday, March 15, our dedicated group of volunteers put on their masks and assembled in our conference room to assemble the Cook-Along boxes to ship out to our loyal supporters.

Each box is brimming with Made in Mendocino goodies, from Thanksgiving coffee to A Sweet Affair macarons to…crab! They are winging their way to their purchasers, who will use the contents to cook along with award-winning chefs at the beautiful and historic Little River Inn on the first day of Spring, March 20.

It’s the perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and support your local wineries.

Thank you to our hard-working volunteers, everyone who bought Cook-Along packages, and to our donors and sponsors, whose support allows us to continue serving our community. Whether we are testing or vaccinating for COVID-19, providing behavioral health or medical or dental services, we are there for you. We are grateful to all who help us to care for our community.

MCC reached an amazing milestone at our drive-through vaccination clinic last Friday, March 12: we have now given more than 4,000 vaccines! So far, nearly 1,500 of these people are fully vaccinated. We are so happy to give our community a #shotofhope!

This week, March 15, 2021, we are not giving any first doses, though we are giving 700 second doses.

Most of us are looking forward to spring after the long, dark winter months. But we’re not looking forward to losing an hour of sleep when the clocks spring forward on ??????, ????? ??. Here are some ideas to help make the time change a little less painful.

Try to wake up the same time each morning, even on the weekends. This will help to keep your sleep cycle more regular. Getting out of bed at the same time every morning will help you feel more rested throughout the year. On the first Sunday of daylight saving time, get up at your regular time and avoid taking a nap if it’s not part of your typical routine.
If your schedule allows, ease into the time change by turning your clocks forward on Saturday morning instead of Sunday morning. Allowing two days, rather than a single day before the start of the work or school week can make the transition a little easier. This can be especially helpful for small children, who often feel the effects of the time change more than adults.
On the bright side, there will be more sunlight in the evenings. Enjoy the natural light! Sunlight helps to reset your body clock naturally and can help you feel more alert when you wake up.

Instead of gathering in the familiar Big White Tent in late January, as we have for more than 20 years, we will be streaming live from the beautiful and historic Little River Inn on the vernal equinox, with an innovative new format: a virtual Cook-A-Long! Award-winning chefs will prepare their famous crab cakes while you enjoy the show or cook along in the safety of your own home.

We are holding a first dose vaccine clinic on Friday, March 12. If you are eligible, give us a call at 964 1251 or email us at info@mccinc.org and we will get you an appointment.

It will be a drive through event, by appointment only.

Anyone 65 and up is eligible to receive the vaccine. We are also vaccinating those in food service, education, childcare, emergency services, home health, lodging, and agriculture. If you have friends, family, or neighbors who fall into one of these categories, let them know they can contact MCC at 964 1251 or info@mccinc.org to get scheduled for the vaccine.

People ages 16-64 years old ???? ??? ????????? ?????????? are also now eligible to receive the vaccine:

• Chronic Kidney Disease (stage 4 or over)

• Chronic Lung Disease (oxygen dependent)

• Cancer

• Heart disease (Coronary Artery Disease, Congestive Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathies, NOT hypertensive only)

• Immunocompromised state (from chemotherapy, or medical conditions)

• Diabetes (Hb A1c >7.5)

• Severe Obesity (BMI >40)

• Sickle Cell Disease

• Pregnancy

• Chronic Disabilities (physical or mental)

A note from your medical provider is required to receive a vaccine based on these conditions.

On Thursday, March 4, MCC rocked our biggest vaccination event so far!

Our team vaccinated nearly 600 people at our drive-through event. The drive-through format keeps everyone safe, limiting face to face contact and keeping everyone physically distant as well as masked. Safety first!

We have had so much practice after months of giving vaccines that the whole thing goes like clockwork. In fact, a grateful patient emailed us:

“I just want to tell you all how impressed I was taking my daughter (works in agriculture and food) – to the vaccine clinic yesterday!!!

I was amazed at how quickly and smoothly the process went – from the time we arrived at the site, and were directed to the right spots – it only took 5 minutes for my daughter to get her vaccine!!! 5 MINUTES!

Then we just parked in the lot, waited for 15 minutes, and were good to go!

No waiting in a line of cars or people – it was fantastic.

You guys working the clinics really have it down pat – I am sure others could learn from the MCC process.”

To date, MCC has vaccinated 3,582 people, including this week’s vaccine clinics, with 1,056 being fully vaccinated. We continue to vaccinate our community members as supplies and guidelines allow. Estamos emocionados de dar la bienvenida a nuestros pacientes a la atención en persona en el departamento médico de South Street. Nuestros centros de Pediatría y Salud de la Mujer regresaron a la atención en persona hace algún tiempo (o nunca dejaron de proporcionarla) y es hora de traer de vuelta a nuestros pacientes adultos.

Ha pasado casi un año desde que hemos visto a la mayoría de nuestros pacientes y estamos deseando volver a verlo!

Los pacientes para médicos y dentales entrarán a través de las puertas principales del vestíbulo de la clínica y habrá dos de nuestro personal ya sea fuera del edificio (si el tiempo lo permite) o dentro de las puertas del vestíbulo para examinarlo para detectar síntomas covid y contacto. Si ha habido algun síntoma, se le enviará a su automóvil para tener una visita de video con un médico, y si usted está aquí para el dental, usted será reprogramado.
Si tiene autorización para ingresar al edificio, recibirá una calcomanía que indica que está aprobado para estar allí, junto con una máscara. A continuación, se le indicará que se registre en la recepción.
Una vez que se haya registrado, regresará a su automóvil y el asistente médico o dental lo llamará cuando estemos listos para atenderlo. Si no tiene automóvil o teléfono y / o tiene problemas de movilidad, se sentará en nuestro lobby.
