Many of our patients are asking us about COVID vaccine boosters. Here’s what we know so far:

𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗳𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗣𝗳𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Moderna submitted their data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for review just this week. It will take several more weeks before there is an approval. There is currently no recommendation or approval related to boosters for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

While the FDA has approved boosters for certain people, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has not approved the booster yet. We anticipate that there could be a decision as soon as tomorrow, September 24. The CDC could go with the FDA recommendations or make boosters available to certain groups of people or they could make them available to everyone.

After the CDC approves the booster, the matter will move to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). 𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗖𝗗𝗣𝗛 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Once CDPH approves the vaccine, we will advertise its availability on Facebook, on the radio, and on our website.

Our 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝘁 continue, with free, confidential drive through vaccines every 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟯:𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟲:𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗺. No appointment or ID needed, and you don’t have to get out of your car. Just drive up to the white tent at MCC, 205 South Street, and we’ll take care of the rest.

We are doing free COVID tests for people who do not have symptoms. The tests are drive through or walk up at the tent at 205 South Street from 𝟵:𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝟭:𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗺 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 and on 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭:𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝟱:𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗺. Please call us at 964-1251 to make an appointment to be tested. Test results are typically available in 48 hours.

If you have symptoms and are a patient at MCC, call us for testing. If you have symptoms and are not a patient at MCC, call your healthcare provider. If your healthcare provider does not do testing, call us at 964-1251 to make an appointment for testing. We will have to gather some basic information from you before doing the testing. Results are usually available in about 30 minutes.

We’re looking for Board Members!

At MCC, we are proud to serve our community and reflect our community and its unique needs, from our staff to our Board. At least half of our Board members are also our patients, helping to make sure that our patients’ needs are being heard.

Our Board focuses on our mission, to build a healthy community by providing quality, patient-centered healthcare to all coastal residents. Their primary duties are working on strategy, setting goals and objectives, and risk management.

Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:00 pm. Currently, we are meeting via Zoom.

This Tuesday, September 14th, there is a special election where voters will have a choice on whether Governor Newsom remains in office. Voters will also have an opportunity to vote for a replacement candidate should the recall succeed.

If you are a registered voter in California, you should have already received a ballot in the mail that you can then fill out and mail back with no postage necessary.

A few tips/reminders:

• If you plan to mail your ballot, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭. No postage stamp is required.

• You can drop off your ballot at a secure ballot drop box, a voting location, or a county elections office by 8 pm on September 14, 2021. There is a secure ballot box at Fort Bragg City Hall.

• If you missed the online voter registration deadline (for new voters or updating your registration), California has same-day voter registration at in person voting locations. Please visit https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place/ to find your voting location.

• If you need a replacement ballot, they will be available at in person voting locations. Please visit https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place/ to find your voting location.

Starting on Monday, September 13, Mendocino County Public Health is doing walk in testing at the Mendocino Cafe on 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟵 𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟬 𝗮𝗺.

We are closed on Monday, September 6 in honor of Memorial Day. We will reopen Tuesday, September 7.

On Tuesday, we will be doing our weekly 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝘁 event from 𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟲 𝗽𝗺, giving free, confidential COVID vaccines to anyone who needs one. Just drive up to the white tent at 205 South Street in Fort Bragg and our dedicated COVID team will do the rest!
