Driven largely by the prevalence of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 100 times stronger than morphine, drug overdoses in California now kill more than twice as many people as car accidents, more than four times as many as homicides, and more than either diabetes or lung cancer, according to California Health Policy Strategies, a Sacramento consulting group.
If you are experiencing opiate use disorder, MCC is here to offer you confidential and nonjudgmental support. Call us at (707) 969-7950, text us at (707) 962-7219, or stop in and see us at 690 South Main Street in Fort Bragg. You are not alone!

Pardon our dust!
We are under construction at our South Street site! We are converting two offices to exam rooms, so we can see more patients. The staff who used those offices will join our medical records staff after that room is remodeled to make room for them. Our construction crew is starting early in the morning to minimize noise and disruption to our patients.
We are grateful to our donors who raised funds at our Crab & Wine event this year for the exam room remodel, and for the grants we received to cover the rest of the construction costs.
We are getting closer to getting our generator installed at South Street, which will keep that location up and running when the power goes out, like it did two weeks ago. Our friends at PG&E came by last weekend to do their part of the generator installation, so we are almost there.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make our clinic an even better place for the #bestcareanywhere!

MCC is a Federally Qualified Health Center, so we receive funding from the federal government. And receiving that money means we are held to a very high standard in the way we run our clinic and care for our patients. It also means that the Feds examine us very closely every three years to make sure we are meeting these requirements. The requirements are covered by 93 different categories, ranging from providing sliding scale discounts, accessible language for non-English speakers, our board of directors composition and oversight and a full range of required primary care services. In addition to those required services, MCC provides many of the eligible additional services, and the review team was extremely impressed with our ability to meet the community’s needs.

And meet them we did! At our operational site visit this month, MCC received a perfect score in all 93 categories. One of the three examiners noted that in her 30 year career, she had only seen one other health center receive a perfect score. All three examiners were impressed with our clinics, our staff, and our wide range of services to all ages, our deep collaboration throughout the County and our ability to “grow our own” workforce. It’s how we provide the #bestcareanywhere!

We received a call this morning from a patient who had just received a Medicare scam call. The call came from a local cell phone number and the caller had the patient’s correct name, address, and other information. She asked the patient to read out her Medicare number so they could send her a new card. The patient became suspicious and the caller hung up.
Please be aware that Medicare will NEVER call you to ask for your credit card number, and you should never give your Medicare number to anyone. Thank you to our patient for alerting us and the City of Fort Bragg Police Dept about this scam. Neighbors helping neighbors!
¡Vecinos ayudando a vecinos!

Happy Nurses’ Week to our amazing, dedicated nurses! It would take more than a week to celebrate the countless things MCC’s nurses do to bring the #bestcareanywhere to our patients, every day. These highly skilled professionals routinely go above and beyond for our patients.
Whether it’s caring for our community’s most vulnerable residents at our Street Medicine program or helping patients with chronic pain or diabetes improve their health and quality of life, our nurses are there for our community. Thank you to MCC’s nurses and all nurses everywhere for being the ❤ of healthcare!
